April 29, 2024

From April 26 to 28, an international seminar "Remember the Holocaust - act for Democracy" was held in Zagreb, organized by the Olga Lengyel Institute and Documenta. The seminar was attended by 30 teachers from 11 European countries, who previously participated in national seminars and conducted projects with their students.

At the opening of the seminar, participants were addressed by Ognjen Kraus, president of the Jewish Municipality of Zagreb, Tena Bakšaj from the Department of Culture of the Serbian National Council, Vesna Teršelič, director of Documenta, and Oana Nestian-Sandu, executive director of the Olga Lengyel Institute's international program.

As part of the seminar, we also visited the Jasenovac memorial and the Roma memorial in Uštica, where the participants had the opportunity to learn more about the events and suffering during the Second World War in the NDH.

On Sunday, the participants walked around the places of suffering and resistance in Zagreb and had the opportunity to reflect on the issues of memorialization and remembrance in Croatia, as well as in the countries they come from.

The most important part of the seminar was the presentation of projects on the topic of the Holocaust and human rights, which the participants designed and implemented with their students.

The seminar was organized as part of the "Remember the Holocaust-Act for Democracy" project, which was financed by the CEV program of the European Union. The seminar is co-financed by the Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights.
