Starting from January 2025, students from the Faculty of Social Sciences, enrolled in the course “Defense Studies” participated to the mentoring programme, developed following the project methodology, and coordinated by Prof. Ljubica Jelušič.

The students’ visited locations relevant for the remembrance of WWI and WWII individually and as a group. They critically approached the locations, considering their elements such as architecture, monuments, and other memorialization strategies. Among the visited monuments are: monument to the fallen partisans in Drča; monument to the victims of the Štajer Battalion and Bračićeve brigade in Javorje; and other memorial sites in local communities outside the city of Ljubljana.

In their research, the students focused on the visited monuments, but also took into consideration individual fates of prominent Slovene people, such as Juro Adlešič, Edvard Kardelj, Milan Česnik, Malči Belič, and others.

Some of the students also conducted interviews with time-witnesses of WWII, and with second generations and family members of victims, in order to better understand connections between memory, trauma, and identity.

In their work, the students were very involved with the local communities, as they visited mostly smaller places and villages outside the capital. They also connected their research to the fates of their families during WWII and in their work is visible the connection between the past and today.

Pri svojem delu so bili študentje zelo povezani z lokalnimi skupnostmi, saj so večinoma obiskovali manjše kraje in vasi izven prestolnice.
